Liberty Precision’s Unique Approach to Forwardskilling

In today’s fast-paced manufacturing landscape, technology is evolving at an unprecedented rate. Advances in software, machinery, and tooling mean that skills acquired just a few years ago may already be outdated.

At Liberty Precision, we recognize that lifelong learning is essential to maintaining our position as a cutting-edge and forward-thinking precision machine shop. Our forwardskilling initiatives ensure that our workforce remains at the forefront of the industry, continuously developing the expertise needed to produce the highest quality, most efficient results for our customers.

Liberty Precision’s Philosophy of Lifelong Education

We firmly believe that education shouldn’t stop after formal schooling. Instead, we view it as an ongoing process throughout an individual’s career.

Our philosophy is built on the idea that machining is a profession—one that requires continuous learning and refinement of skills. This approach benefits both our employees and our customers by fostering innovation, improving efficiency, and ensuring that our team remains highly skilled in the latest manufacturing techniques.

By investing in education, we not only enhance our workforce’s capabilities but also provide clear pathways for career advancement. Employees who actively participate in our forwardskilling programs have the opportunity to increase their wages, expand their responsibilities, and grow within the company. This commitment to professional development ensures a highly motivated and engaged team, ready to tackle a range of complex manufacturing challenges.

Developing a Skilled Workforce Through Innovative Training

Partnering with MATC for Swiss Machining Education

One of our most successful training initiatives is our partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). MATC’s resources—including Swiss CNC machines and expert instructors—have allowed us to develop a specialized training program tailored to the needs of our machinists. Employees attend classes after work and immediately apply their newly acquired skills to their roles, reinforcing learning through hands-on experience.

What started as a pilot program for Liberty Precision employees has since expanded to include other manufacturing companies in the region. The curriculum consists of four structured courses, and due to its success, we anticipate continued participation and additional course offerings in the future.

Leveraging Tooling U for Ongoing Skill Development

In addition to hands-on training, we utilize Tooling U, an online learning platform that offers courses in various contract manufacturing specialties, including Swiss machining services and the nuances of quality control. Employees dedicate an hour each week to customized training so they can enhance their skills in a structured yet flexible manner.

Beyond Technical Skills: Strengthening Our Workforce Through Leadership Development

We also invest in leadership development programs such as Living As a Leader, equipping both junior and senior team members with essential skills in communication, conflict resolution, and team management. The program is highly personalized, allowing participants to focus on specific areas for improvement.

Additionally, we have recently introduced Dale Carnegie leadership training, further expanding opportunities for personal and professional growth. We’re still early in the program, but we look forward to sharing more information about the value we’re gaining from this training.

How Forwardskilling Benefits Our Employees and Customers

Empowering Employees with Career Growth

Through our forwardskilling initiatives, employees gain new skills that lead to increased wages and career advancement. Many of our machinists have seen their earnings double or even triple over the last decade as a direct result of their participation in our training programs. By continuously developing their expertise, they enhance their value within the company while also securing their financial future.
